This project was certainly an interesting one. It was different than most school projects in the sense that we basically had to create our own idea and we were given a lot of freedom. We got the guidelines, the expectations, and the deadlines, then we set out to work on the project. I like the fact that we were to develop our own ideas, find our own sources, and develop our own way of collecting data. Overall this project was a fun one that allowed us to expand our thinking and develop our own process. I enjoyed working to make our wonderful school a better, more sustainable campus.
Some things that went well with our project was the planning process. Luckily for our group, Tate had the right connections to allow us to interact with an elementary class. The communication with Kumu K and Tate's Aunty also helped the project run smoothly. The actual presentation with the haumana also went well (thanks to Mr. Blake for helping us). But the process of planning with a second party was essential to the project and we were fortunate that the planning and communicating was smooth and we were able to get in touch with Kumu K easily.
One thing that didn't go as planned was the amount of times that we were able to meet with the haumana. This was simply a result of limited time and we weren't able to meet with them for a second time. However the first time was a joyous experience.
I learned a tremendous amount from this project. First of, working in a group can be difficult if you don't have the chemistry between members. Luckily for our group, we had no problems. Next, I learned that communication amongst every living being that has anything to do with our project was fundamental in making the whole project flow. Everyone must be on the same page for things to run like a well oiled machine. I also learned that planning is arguably the most important part of any project. The planning process allows for a much easier time when it comes to the actual project.
To make this activity better there's not much I would change. Actually, I wouldn't change a thing.
Of course. This whole process is science. We basically followed the scientific process. We asked a question, made some observations, collected data, and so forth. When we made our observations we were doing some science. We conducted some background research and did a lot of science things everyday. Science is everywhere.
